Sunday Morning at DiMeo Farms: Late Season Blueberry Picking in Hammonton, NJ
As August rolls around, most blueberry farms are already done for the summer, but not DiMeo Farms in Hammonton, NJ! Even in this late season, we found blueberries still available to pick that were sweet and delicious, making our recent visit a pleasant surprise. From fruit picking to creekside picnics, DiMeo Farms offered us a wonderful Sunday morning.
Late Season Delight: Picking Blueberries
Our experience at DiMeo Farms proved that good blueberry picking doesn’t have to end in July. With organic, Non-GMO, heirloom blueberries still ripe and ready into August, we enjoyed a fruitful experience without the crowds.
At just $30 for our whole group to pick, we were given more pint boxes than we could use! This is an unusually low price and made for an affordable outing for us and the family that joined us.
More Than Just Blueberries: A Day of Family Fun
Following our picking spree, we relaxed at the fully-shaded picnic tables for an impromptu kids' lunch and blueberry feast. Exploring the nature trails and dangling our feet in the creek added to the property's beautiful charm.
Though kayaks are available on the creek for an additional charge, we opted to save that for our next visit.
Practical Details to Know Before You Go
Cash Only: Remember to bring cash, as cards are not accepted.
Appointments: No appointments are needed to pick.
Come a little after 10AM: It's worth noting to arrive a little after 10 AM on Sundays, as the farmer can be a bit slow to start. We waited about 15 minutes for him to open the gate.
Extras: In addition to pick your own blueberries, DiMeo Farms sells blueberry bushes if you're looking to add one to your garden.
Blueberries Only: DiMeo Farms offers blueberries exclusively. If you are looking to pick multiple types of fruit, you may want to consider places like Specca Farms or Alstede Farms.
A Great Find, We'll Be Back
DiMeo Farms stands out for its late-season availability, pleasant picnic area and a creek running through the property. The fact that most blueberry farms are already done for the season makes this a great find. Our kids also loved eating their freshly picked blueberries by the creek. Overall, we enjoyed our time there, and we will be back.
